La Flotte - Where are We?

We are situated less than a mile inland from the town of Mortagne sur Gironde which is on the Gironde estuary about 18 miles south of Royan (at the mouth of the estuary). Suggested travel routes are :

St Malo ferry - By road from St Malo is almost all motorway and is a drive of 4 hours or so in one hop. On a Big map of France the route is pretty clear - St Malo/Rennes/Nantes/Niort then past Saintes towards Bordeaux. Leave the motorway at Junction 36 (Pons) and turn right towards Gemozac. In Gemozac town centre turn left at the traffic lights down the D6 towards Mortagne, then see Local Directions map. Calais ferry or Chunnel - It is quite a hike from Calais but we have done it a few times. We usually take the motorway to Paris and then follow the signs (carefully!) on the motorway system to Bordeaux. Keep following these until you are on the A10 past Saintes. Leave the motorway at Junction 36 (Pons) and turn right towards Gemozac. In Gemozac town centre turn left at the traffic lights down the D6 towards Mortagne, then see Local Directions map.

Other channel ports - too numerous to mention but from most ports you will join up with the St Malo route above.

La Rochelle fly-drive - cheap flights from Stanstead to La Rochelle with Ryanair and from Southampton with flybe, and best deal recently for car hire has been Europcar. Take the dual carriageway/motorway south past Rochefort and past Saintes. Leave the motorway at Junction 36 (Pons) and turn right towards Gemozac. In Gemozac town centre turn left at the traffic lights down the D6 towards Mortagne, then see Local Directions map.

Bordeaux fly-drive - cheap flights available to Bordeaux from flybe and bmibaby. Best deal recently for car hire has been Europcar. Take the dual carriageway/motorway north towards Paris. Leave the motorway at Junction 37 (Mirambeau) and turn left towards Royan on the D730. After about 12 miles, at the 2nd roundabout, you are at Boutenac-Touvent, then see Local Directions map.
